The Edge of Farming

There’s nothing quite like The Edge of Farming.

Join us as we chronicle the lives of growers who brave the fiercest conditions. We’ve gone from the Mississippi Delta, north to the Dakotas and west to the wind-blown fields of Texas to see how some of America’s most successful ag professionals take care of business.

This inaugural season of The Edge of Farming features 11 weekly episodes and while the challenges these farm families face may be radically different, they all share a common goal: Survival.

Finley, ND Skyline

If you ever wanted to know where to find the middle of nowhere, just head north and you will stumble upon Finley, ND… the “F” in B.F.E.

I arrived the first week of October to 40mph gusts and temps dropping below freezing.  By the time I awoke for our 6:00 A.M. call time the ground had collected 5 inches of snow.  The north wasted no time in welcoming this southern boy to all it’s glory.  At first I was thinking I drew the short straw for this assignment, but North Dakota was handing me a great story and I couldn’t wait to tell it.

Cameraman, Bill Bowles had already planted boots on the ground a few days before I arrived to capture the frenzy of the harvest season.  Bergstrom Ranch knew this weather system was zeroing in on Finley and frantically tried to pull as much corn out of the ground before mother nature could do her deed.

With corn at record high prices, the Bergstrom family couldn’t afford to miss out on a potential record-breaking crop.
